CHAPTER TWELVE
Jackson walked to Ash’s bedroom windows and gazed out to the beach beyond, the sand and water glistening with the rising sun. Ash had woken him not long ago with gentle kisses, saying he was going to run out to get them breakfast. As he’d found out during their two weeks at his ranch — the one week having gotten extended because Ash was enjoying it so much — and his one week here in L.A., Ash wasn’t much for cooking. And he wasn’t very good at it, either.
Jackson smiled at the memory of when at the ranch, he’d left Ash in charge of grilling their hamburgers while he went down to the barn to check on one of his mares who’d come up lame the day before. His first warning sign that he needed to get back to the house was black smoke. As he made his way back, his second warning sign that he needed to move his ass faster was hearing Ash spitting out a long string of curse words. By the time he got to him, all that was left of their dinner were four blackened hamburger patties. Ash was beyond pissed. His laughing about it didn’t help cool Ash down any quicker, but as they both learned in the past few weeks, neither of them stayed angry long.
Since coming to L.A., they got takeout constantly, and it was starting to wear on him. He was about to take over Ash’s kitchen and cook for them, and he had a feeling Ash wouldn’t object. All he needed was for Ash to take him to a grocery store. Maybe they could do that this afternoon. Ash hadn’t laid out any other plans for them. They’d gone to the beach three days in a row. He was determined to learn how to use a damn surfboard. In his opinion, Ash got off a hell of a lot easier with learning to ride a horse. But Ash was a fun teacher, and more patient than he ever believed was possible for him. And, it was fun getting wet with him.
Today, though, he was ready to do something different. Since Ash stayed two weeks with him in Texas, he decided he’d give L.A. two weeks. It hit him, they were coming up on being together for a month. How the hell had that happened? It seemed hardly more than a few days had passed since Ash kissed him for the first time. With how fast the time went when he was with Ash, it made him think they needed to be together for a long time. He just hoped Ash was starting to feel the same way.
The sound of the penthouse door opening and closing brought Jackson out of his thoughts. He turned from the window, walking through Ash’s spacious bedroom and down a hall to the open living room, the kitchen on the other side. He stopped, looking at Ash as he moved toward the kitchen, dressed in cargo shorts, sandals, and a black tank top showing off his tattoos, sinewy arms, and toned chest.
